Hair Care - How to Wash Your Hair Properly and How Often

How often should you wash your hair?

How often should you wash your hair
Wash your hair as your hair gets dirty, no more than twice a week. Most of the time, dirt accumulates at the base of your hair. This is sebum, dust, dirt, and a layer of styling products. This all negatively affects the condition of hair. Hair growth slows down.

The following factors should be considered when choosing how often you want to wash your hair:

  • Your hair type.
Owners of hair with oily type can wash their hair every day. It will help remove excess sebum. It will not affect the condition of the hair. They will be better groomed.
If you are the owner of a dry hair type, it is necessary to wash your hair no more than 2 times a week. If you do it more often, they will lose volume and become even more dry and brittle.
  • Time of year.
It also makes a big difference what time of year it is. In winter and autumn, we wear a hat more often. This means that they become contaminated more quickly. The need to wash your hair more often increases.
  • Skin condition.
Eat more leafy greens and vegetables in your diet and less fatty, calorie-dense food at night. Less sugar in your diet, replace it with stevia. Your hair will thank you. Everything you eat affects your scalp and your hair.
  • Use of styling products.
Styling products leave a thin film on the hair so that it cannot breathe. Their condition worsens accordingly. That is why it is necessary to fix it by washing your head and hair.

When choosing a shampoo, it is necessary to take into account the type of hair. For dry hair, sulfate-free shampoos are excellent.

General rules for shampooing

scalp washing rules

  1. Comb your hair. This is so that the hair doesn’t get tangled in the washing process. And you can rinse them evenly.
  2. Before applying the shampoo, it is necessary to wet the hair. The water should not be hot. It dries the scalp and the epidermis starts to produce more sebum.
  3. Place the shampoo in the palms of your hands, rub it in, and only then apply it evenly to the hair.
  4. The amount of shampoo depends on the length and thickness of your hair. If you have dry hair, enough and one lather. If you have oily or thick hair two times.
  5. Wash your hair first from the parting to the ears, then the back of the head, and then the length.
  6. Wash while gently massaging the scalp with your fingertips. Never use your fingernails to scratch your scalp.
  7. Rinse out the shampoo thoroughly. If you rinse well, hair feels like it squeaks to the touch.
  8. Apply the balm on the entire length of the hair, on the roots too can, without touching the scalp. Sustain for 5-7 minutes. Rinse. Balm smoothes the surface of the hair. Making them smooth and silky.
  9. If you want to apply a mask to the hair, you do not need a balm. For preventive purposes, masks are applied no more than once or twice a week. But if your hair needs intensive help, it is better to make masks every other day. After 8-10 sessions the result will not make you wait. Rinse out well.
  10. To the ends of the hair, if necessary, you can apply a therapeutic oil. Apply to damp ends.

Wrap hair with a towel. In no case do not rub the hair. This traumatizes them. A cotton towel will work perfectly. Do not twist the hair with the towel, making a turban.

It is a huge misconception that dreadlocks do not need to be washed. After braiding dreadlocks, wash your hair no sooner than 2-3 weeks later. Rinse carefully so as not to unravel them. Rinse thoroughly with water. Then wash your hair at least once a month. But not more than once a week.

Once you have selected a suitable washing scheme, strictly adhere to it. Dreadlocks dry for a very long time. Hair drying is not allowed, you can damage the dreadlocks. The dreadlocks can’t be used as a ponytail.

Tip: To avoid shampooing your dreadlocks. They have the property of straightening the hair. Excellent for washing is the usual baby soap, or a remedy for dandruff apothecary.

There are special shampoos for dreadlocks, but they are difficult to find, and their cost is quite high. It is good to rinse dreadlock’s decoction of chamomile.

Hair with curly hair: let’s shampoo it right

Curly hair - the right shampoo
Curly hair needs special care. When choosing a shampoo, you should choose one that does not contain sulfates, silicones, and parabens. Sulfates dry out your hair too much. Silicones and parabens wrap the hair, thus preventing the release of moisture and natural sebum from the hair shaft.

Also when choosing a shampoo it is necessary to look at what type of curls it is suitable for.

There are types of division:

  • soft waves
  • spiral strands
  • elastic curls

The shampoo label has labels from A1 to B3. It is very good if the shampoos contain extracts of Hamamelis, white lotus, cornflower, jojoba oil, etc. These plant extracts have a positive effect on the hair.

If you want to try a new hair product, you have to use it for a week and see how your hair behaves.

Wet your hair. Take some shampoo, rub it in the palms of your hands and apply it to the roots of your hair. Massage it for 2-3 minutes without touching the hair length. Rinse off the shampoo. And apply balm or conditioner on the entire length of the hair, without rubbing it into the roots.

There are three ways to develop the procedure:

  1. Leave the conditioner on the hair if it is non-washable. It does a great job of smoothing the hair. With styling is easier. The main thing is not to go overboard with the amount. Otherwise, it weighs down the curls.
  2. Rinse out the conditioner, and rinse your hair with cool water. Apply a little bit of it to style unruly curls.
  3. You can also use a conditioner. It nourishes the hair.

Tip: You can ask a trichologist for help with cleansing your hair and scalp. The procedure consists of several steps. Warming mask, exfoliation, washing and drying. The application of a revitalizing lotion. Physical treatments may be prescribed.
